Curating Stunning Interiors Since 1991
Founded in 1991 in the heart of London’s Chelsea Design Quarter, Nordic Style was established by Moussie Sayers with a simple but distinctive vision: to bring the light, elegance and timeless beauty of Scandinavian interiors into British homes.
Opening her first showroom on Lots Road in Chelsea, Moussie became one of the pioneers of Scandinavian-inspired interiors in the UK. At a time when dark woods and pine furniture dominated British homes, Nordic Style introduced a softer and more elegant aesthetic, combining clean Nordic simplicity with the rustic refinement of Swedish Gustavian and country-style furniture.
The business quickly became renowned for sourcing handcrafted furniture and beds from Sweden, with many pieces then meticulously hand-finished in the UK in soft chalky whites, muted greys and warm creams.
Inspired by eighteenth-century Swedish design, the collections featured carved detailing, fluted legs and elegant, understated proportions. Nordic Style became particularly well known for its original Mora clocks, Gustavian desks and distinctive cabinet furniture, while also designing and manufacturing its own high-quality reproduction collections inspired by original Swedish antiques.
But Nordic Style was never simply about individual pieces of furniture.
From the beginning, rooms were thoughtfully curated with complementary ceramics, lighting, textiles, wall art and accessories, allowing customers to create complete and beautifully coordinated interiors. The Gustavian bedroom collections became particularly successful and remain one of the defining elements of the Nordic Style heritage.
From Chelsea to Homes Across Britain
Over the following three decades, Nordic Style expanded beyond its Chelsea beginnings and opened shops and showrooms throughout South West London and Surrey, including Wimbledon Village, Centre Court Wimbledon, Barnes, Fulham, Esher, Guildford and Richmond upon Thames.
Today, Nordic Style has evolved once again.
Rather than operating traditional High Street retail stores, the business now operates from its warehouse, supplies selected independent retailers throughout the UK and meets retail customers at events held around the country.
Removing the considerable overheads associated with permanent High Street showrooms allows Nordic Style to operate more efficiently while continuing to concentrate on what has always mattered most: beautiful products, exceptional value and timeless interiors.
